Are the speakers plugged into the CD drive?
Action:
1) See if the speakers are connected to the front of the computer near the CD drive tray. This would mean that the speakers are connected to the CD drive instead of the sound card.
2) Move speaker connector to the sound card at the back of the computer. Look for a speaker symbol on the back of the computer. Plug the speakers into that jack.
NOTE: The sound card may have several different options that may make it confusing to locate. The speaker jack generally looks similar to a headphone jack and may have a symbol over it that looks like sound waves coming from a half-circle. If the computer has a modem, it may be part of the sound card.
